WinTasks Pro Review

WinTasks Pro is a wonderful alternative to the uninformative Windows Task manager - in fact, I shouldn't mention them in the same sentence. Instead of cryptic filenames of running processes, you get proper names and full descriptions of all running processes, including when they started and how much memory and CPU they are using. You can see what processes are autostarted, all windows that a particular process has open, and the DLLs it is using.

Of course you can stop a process, but even better you can block it. Your block list is fully editable. So if it tries to automatically start itself up again - as many spyware programs do - it will fail. I wish I'd been using this utility last time I battled to remove spyware from my PC. I spent hours, editing the registry and booting in Safe Mode. Why? I couldn't delete the spyware because everytime I stopped the process it started itself again - I couldn't kill the thing! But if I'd had WinTasks Pro then, I could have blocked it. Oh well, live and learn!

After using WinTasks Pro for a while, I have to wonder how I managed before! I like to know exactly what's happening on my PC, and I check for spyware and adware regularly. I also check my running processes whenever my PC seems slower than normal, or I hear the hard-disk operating when I'm not doing anything! WinTasks Pro has made these housekeeping tasks much easier for me.

When WinTasks Pro is running, it places an icon in your taskbar that you can use to control it:

Here's a screenshot of the detailed description you see when you click on a running process. You can even store your own notes about each process.

Right-click on a process for a menu of options. This is the easiest way to stop the process - or you can click the Stop button at the top.

And my personal favourite - block those undesirable programs!
